Joe D. Goodwin is founder of The Goodwin Group, a retained executive search firm, specializing in the identification and recruitment of senior-level executives and members of corporate boards. Mr. Goodwin founded The Goodwin Group after more than three decades in the executive search industry, having served a wide variety of clients and industries across literally all functional lines.
Mr. Goodwin was previously Executive Vice President of LAI Worldwide (LAIX: NASDAQ), one of the largest executive search firms in the United States, and was responsible for the Southeastern United States. In addition, he served as a member of the Board of Directors as one of the inside members and on the company’s Executive Committee. Prior to that, he was Managing Director of Spencer Stuart for ten years. His clients have included many Fortune 500 companies and divisions in industries from consumer goods to durable goods, transportation and manufacturing, and service and financial institutions.
Mr. Goodwin originally entered the executive search industry in 1978. Previously, his career included both line and staff positions at Xerox Corporation where he was one of the original members of the staff of the Xerox Management Development Center near Washington, D.C.
Mr. Goodwin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce and Business Administration from the University of Alabama. He has served as a Senior Advisor to The Boston Consulting Group, on the Board of Directors of National Distributing Company, Inc. and on the boards of several notable non-profit, civic and charitable organizations. He is a member and officer of the Atlanta Downtown Rotary where he has chaired and serves on several committees.
Mary Buckle has joined The Goodwin Group. She specializes in the identification and recruitment of senior-level executives and corporate board members.
Mary has been an executive search consultant since 1998. Prior to joining The Goodwin Group, Mary was a Partner with Heidrick & Struggles and Egon Zehnder International where she built successful search practices, focused on recruiting senior executives in senior financial leadership roles. Her clients include corporate leaders in a wide variety of industries and functional areas.
Since 1979, Mary has also held corporate development and finance positions at National Data Corporation; Equifax; McGraw-Hill; and Smith Barney, Harris Upham & Company. She was a National Account Manager with AT&T, serving the U.S. Department of Treasury, the White House and Camp David before entering graduate school. Mary earned her MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia and graduated with honors in Marketing from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Throughout her career, Mary has also been an active board member of a number of Atlanta community organizations including Chairwoman of the Women of Tocqueville for the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta 2007-2009; the March of Dimes for Metropolitan Atlanta; Young Audiences, a Woodruff Arts Center affiliate; and the Board of Directors Network (President 2000). She is a member of The National Association of Corporate Directors where she completed the NACD’s Directors’ College at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business certification. She has been a speaker on the subject of Diversity and Corporate Boards.
